IF you are not in an Environmental Stewardship (ES) agreement you may well be missing out. Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) can improve farm income and aims to reward farmers for the environmental management they carry out on their holding.

Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) provides you with the opportunity to achieve a wide range of environmental benefits through more specific management and associated payments.

You are invited to an Environmental Stewardship meeting to look at the potential of ELS. We will provide details on the range of options that are available under the ELS scheme and how it can work for you.

ELS participants receive £30/ha for managing their farm in a more environmentally sensitive way by selecting from a range of options. A brief overview of HLS will provided.

Where: The meeting to be held is on Thursday 11th February 2010 at:

Ye Horns Inn
Goosnargh
Nr Preston
Lancashire
PR3 2FJ

Time: The meeting will start at 7-30pm and will finish around 9-15pm.

We will begin with an introduction to Environmental Stewardship (with a focus on ELS) and then discuss the features on a farm which can be used to score points for ELS.

During the evening we will look at and discuss the management of a variety of options available under ELS, these will include:
• Low input grassland management
• Boundary management (hedge and ditch)
• Arable options
• Maintenance of traditional buildings

We will explain how ELS can fit in with modern farming practices.

In addition we will also explain how to apply and show an example application.
