YOU are invited to a farm walk to look at the potential of Upland Entry Level Stewardship (UELS) on your farm and the benefits it can bring to both the environment and farm income.
The Hill Farm Allowance (HFA) is coming to an end and its successor is the Upland Entry Level Stewardship (UELS). There will be payments of up to £62/ha for land within the SDA.
Time: 10:00am - 12:30pm
Location: Cannerheugh, Renwick, Penrith, CA10 1LA
Cannerheugh is on the edge on the North Pennines and is a productive beef and sheep farm and they also grow some arable. Messrs Little entered 235ha of land into Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) in 2007.
The ELS options they used to gain entry to the scheme include stone wall protection and maintenance and permanent grassland with low inputs. Other options which they could have used are mixed stocking, traditional farm buildings and hedgerow maintenance.
The Littles will be looking to enter into the UELS scheme in conjunction with Higher Level Scheme in the future.
Farmers and land owners who enter UELS will receive up to £62/ha on their SDA land. To gain entry in to the scheme farmers will have to achieve a points target by meeting requirements and choosing options which best suit their farming practice.
The morning shall consist of
• Introduction to the farm and UELS
• Farm walk looking at the requirements and a selection of options
• Discuss how UELS fits in with the existing agri-environmental schemes
• The application process
Followed by a free hot lunch
Speakers: Richard Potts and Charlotte Helliwell - Land Management Advice Service (LMAS)
We shall be walking across fields and up and down terrain so please wear suitable clean footwear. A foot dip will be provided for bio-security purposes.
The farm walk commences at 10.00am and will last around 2 hours followed by a free hot lunch.
